The Mutt

My dog’s name is Benny, short for Benedict. We named him after the current Pope. We’re not Catholic, but someone at church jokingly suggested the name and we liked it, so it stuck. We adopted Benny on May 13, 2005 from the SPCA. He was 2 then, and now he’s 5. He is the eternal puppy. We think he’s part beagle, husky, shiba inu, and a bunch of other breeds.

He is always making mischief. At five years old, he is still getting into things while we aren’t home and destroying them. He’ll eat just about anything. He has gotten into all of our cupboards, the refrigerator (yes, you read that right), the mud room, my parents’ bedroom, the office, the garbage, and the bathroom while we’re not home.  Somehow he figured out how to open doors.  We have multiple kinds of baby locks on our cupboards and a lock on the fridge.

After he makes trouble, I look back on it and laugh. There’s nothing this dog could eat that would surprise me. He thinks snow is the best thing in the world.  He plays in it and he eats it. He snorts it and then runs around like he’s crazy. The colder, snowier, and windier it is the happier he is.

I could go on and on about him, but that would take up a lot of space. I’m going to be posting a lot about him in my blog, so you’ll read plenty more of his antics. Basically you need to know that he’s a puppy in an adult dog’s body who’s extremely smart and will do anything to get food.  He is too smart for his own good.
