The Life Was Sucked Out of My Phone

My cell phone is constantly being made fun of by my friends and family alike, due to its age.  I have had it for over three years now and I have not used my free upgrade.  Why?  Two reasons.  Number one being that there are pictures on it that I have no possible way of extracting from it due to my lack of picture messaging capabilities and bluetooth.  Number two being the battery life.

Over three years later, this phone still lasts two weeks on a charge.  It’s always on, too.  I have yet to have another piece of electronics that has that good of a battery life.  My iBook’s battery life died after two years.  Actually, I’ve had that phone longer than the iBook.  No one I know has a cell phone with a battery that lasts that long.  My sister’s phone comes close, but it’s only a year old.

However, there is one place where my phone cannot keep a charge and that is Hawley, PA, where we went on vacation.  Every year it’s the same thing.  My phone dies after a day.  ONE DAY!  Not even a day!  It barely lasted 24 hours this year.  I actually remembered my charger this time and I had to charge it every night.   No one else in my family had that issue there.

I don’t get it.  I really don’t.  I don’t use it much there since I only get one bar of service if I’m lucky, but I use it as an alarm and a watch.  Now that I’m back home, my phone is back to its usual long battery life.  Weird.

  1. That’s because in rural areas it takes more power to search for a signal.

  2. Yeah, what oz said plus I’m thinking the other phones your family are not having the same issue probably because their phones are newer so they are calibrated more than yours. Years ago, I had a problem with week signals, and went to my service provider’s store, and they calibrated it for me and it worked great after. I don’t know you can still do that because the wireless service contracts and stuff like that have changed so much since then.

  3. Yeah, but I’ve been in other rural areas and it hasn’t happened. I live near a rural area.

That’s what my dad said, Yoon. But my mom’s phone is the same age as mine and hers lasted throughout the trip.

The signal wasn’t the issue. I actually got the best cell reception out of my family even with my old phone. None of them had signals and I had one or two bars.

  4. Are you talking about signals or battery life? I was confused for a second with the other comments.

I think maybe Hawley just doesn’t like your phone since it won’t keep a charge there. I had the other version of your phone and it still works. It’s my back up phone. I only got a new one because the plastic screen on the front(where the clock is) cracked. I just woke up one morning and it was cracked. Maybe I was sleepwalking. I’ve dropped it a gazillion times before and it really is sturdy. But my favorite thing about it was the battery life. I have to charge my Blackberry like every 3 or 4 days now compared to 2 weeks.
