It’s Over… March 30, 2008

Filed under: Holidays, The Daily Grind — essenceofinsanity @ 7:50 pm

Spring Break is over.  Back to the grind tomorrow.  I have to be at school at 8am to work on a group project for English.  Now, we go straight through to the end of the semester with no more vacations.  That’s 7 more weeks.  7 more weeks and then I graduate!

I had a good break, though.  Didn’t get much homework done, but whatever.  I did manage to read all but the last chapter in this really boring book I’m reading for sociology.  It’s all about the conservative view of Social problems, and I’m very liberal.

Other than that, I cleaned out both of my fish tanks, knitted, spent a lot of time going online, wrote a good bit of fan fiction, read a lot of fan fiction, and attempted to do my calculus homework.  Attempt being the key word.  I don’t remember how to do it at all.  That’s what I get for saving it for the last day.  Oh, well, I bet the whole class didn’t know how to do it.  We’re also probably getting our tests back tomorrow, not looking forward to that.

For $250,000… March 28, 2008

You can buy the domain name www.clientnine.com  in honor of Eliot Sptizer who was Client Number 9 in his prostitution thing.  It was in the paper this morning.  Someone is selling that domain name for $250,000.  You can also buy the email address clientnine@nyc.com

The crazy thing is, I bet someone will buy it.  Anyone want it?

New Computer March 27, 2008

My dad had been looking for a new desktop for a while. Our old one is really slow. You can hardly run 3 programs at once without it not working right. So he started looking for a new one. He found a used one on Craigslist. It’s a Dell, and he wasn’t going to get another Dell, but this one was really nice. A computer programmer bought it new less than a year ago and upgraded it a lot. I call it the Uber-Dell. It was only $450, so he went to see it and decided to get it. It was a really great deal.

It has 2 hard drives, each one 500 GB. So it’s a Terabyte of hard drive space. Plus it has 3 GB of ram.  It also has a DVD burner and a DVD drive. I don’t know why the guy put both in, but it works for us. My dad was originally only going to buy a new computer, but not a monitor, keyboard, etc. But this one came with a 17″ LCD monitor, keyboard, optical mouse, speakers, and subwoofer. The great part is, I get the old speakers and a mouse to go with my laptop.

I haven’t tried it yet, but my siblings say it works well. I don’t even have an account on it yet. It came with Windows XP and my dad put Linux on it. I’ll probably try it out within the next few days. My bro says it’s pretty fast. I guess I no longer have the fastest computer in the house. Here are some pics of it.

The whole set-up (sans new speakers, these are the old ones).

The Actual Computer Part

The Monitor

We set up the old one in the basement. It can’t connect to the Internet down there because it doesn’t have a wireless card, but it can still do other stuff. It looks really funny because there are 2 other old computers down there that are in partway taken apart (my bro likes to take computers apart).

Peeps March 25, 2008

Every year the local newspaper has this contest where you make a diorama out of Peeps. I’ve never entered before, but this year my siblings and I decided to do it. We made Professor Snape’s Potions class. It was fun to make. We made it entirely out of food. The cauldrons are these little brownies they sell where I work. We gouged out the insides of them and put melted marshmallow with food coloring in them to be potion.

But we didn’t win. Oh, well. Here are some pics.

We also dyed some Easter eggs. I made a Gryffindor one, a Slytherin one, and a duck one using this plastic thing that you put around the egg.

And at work last night, I bought some cheap Easter candy. I love when all the candy goes on sale. All the bulk Easter candy was 99 cents a pound, so I got a pound of that. Plus a couple truffle filled chocolate eggs that were only 89 cents down from $7. Good deal.

So Close… March 20, 2008

Spring Break.  It’s so close.  Tomorrow is the last day of classes, yay!  Then I get a whole week off.  My siblings are already out on break, but they have to go back next Wednesday.  I don’t have to go back until March 31st.  But my college is so weird.  Most colleges started spring break this week, but we didn’t.  We always have strange breaks, but whatever.

So, what will I be doing with my spring break?  Not much, lol.  I’m not going down to Florida or anything like that.  I’ll be staying home for most of it.  I have to read a whole book for sociology by April first that I’ve hardly started.  I’ll also have to do calculus homework, ugh.  Speaking of calculus, we’ll probably get our tests back tomorrow.  I’m sure I did horribly.  I’ll be working, too.  I’m working on Monday and Wednesday.  Working Monday is good, that’s the day all the Easter candy will go on sale.  Time to stock up on Cadbury cream eggs and chocolate.  I have a serious chocolate addiction.

I also have an open house at the college I’m transferring to.  That’s on March 29th.  Yes, I have decided on a college!  My whole family is going to the open house, so Benny will have to go to the kennel.  I’m sure he’s not looking forward to it.

So, let the countdown begin!  24 hours, 35 minutes until break starts.  Hopefully my calculus test grade won’t ruin it…

He Got Into The Office March 17, 2008

Filed under: Mischief Managed, Photos, the mutt — essenceofinsanity @ 3:27 pm

I knew it wouldn’t be long before I wrote an entry about Benny. Today, he somehow managed to get into the office while we were gone. He decided it would be fun to empty all the garbage cans in there and eat some of the tissues. Yuck. He also pulled some stuff out of my book bag, but luckily he didn’t eat anything from it. It could have been a lot worse. He left all the computers alone, thank goodness. That would have been bad. But, I only found one of my dad’s slippers. It was sitting on the rug in the living room along with one of his boots and a piece of the inside of the other slipper. I can’t find that slipper anywhere, so I have a feeling he ate it. A whole slipper! Slippers don’t digest properly, we found that out when he ate part of another slipper. But this was a whole slipper. I guess we’ll have to wait and see what happens. There isn’t much this dog won’t eat.

Here is a picture of the office when I came home.

And here is the living room, where I found the first slipper.

And here is a picture of the not so innocent mutt afterwards.

Gas Sale March 16, 2008

Filed under: The Daily Grind — essenceofinsanity @ 4:53 pm

I had to buy gas today.  I like buying gas on Sundays because one of the stations near where I work has a sale every Sunday, so as long as I’m working, it works out great.  The little light came on my dashboard this morning when I turned on the car, lol.  Good thing I live close to where I work.  I’m always waiting until it’s practically empty to refill the tank.  So after work I went to the gas station and it was a madhouse.  I had to wait for a pump, and then I had to back the car up to the pump.  I’ve never done that before, but it was either that or wait another ten minutes for a pump.  It was $3.32 a gallon and it cost me $50.03 to fill up my tank.  It’s never cost me over 50 before.  I didn’t even fill it up all the way because I only had $50.  I hate buying gas.  That was half my paycheck.

Oh, and someone almost hit my car when I was pulling out of work.  I had a green arrow, so I pulled out of the parking lot.  Some guy who was coming out of the mall across the street made a right on red at the same time and practically hit me.  He would have if I hadn’t braked.  Nice.

Sushi March 15, 2008

Filed under: Food — essenceofinsanity @ 10:12 pm

Ever since work last night I’ve wanted some sushi. I worked in the cafe section of the store last night and a lot of people bought sushi. I love vegetable sushi. I’ve never tried the kind with raw fish, it just doesn’t appeal to me. So for dinner tonight we went to a Chinese buffet and I got some sushi. I had the kind with cream cheese, carrots, and cucumber. It was yummy. I also had beef with broccoli, sweet and sour chicken, and lo mein. And my fortune was ‘you are patient and caring’. LOL, I’m definitely not the most patient person in the world.

Calculus March 14, 2008

Filed under: The Daily Grind — essenceofinsanity @ 3:05 pm

I hate Calculus.  I really do.  I’m in Calc 2, and I’m not doing any more after this semester.  We had a quiz today and the first question was horrible.  It was this complicated integral that we had to use a formula for.  There were over 100 formulas to choose from.  I probably used the wrong one.  Everyone sitting near me used different formulas, so a bunch of us got it wrong.  The other 2 problems were ok, I know I got the second right, not sure about the last one.  All I can say is calculus sucks.   And we have a test on Tuesday.  I’m not looking forward to that.

Deathly Hallows will be 2 movies March 13, 2008

Filed under: Harry Potter, Movies — essenceofinsanity @ 6:30 pm

Yes!  It’s true.  Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be done in 2 films.  Released in November 2010 and May 2011.  I’m so happy!  There’s no way they could have done the book justice in one movie.  They would have cut out way too much.  As is, I think they cut out too much of Goblet of Fire and Order of the Phoenix.  And David Yates will be directing it.  He directed OotP and is directing Half Blood Prince, too.  Although I do wish Alfonso Cauron was going to direct DH.  He directed Prisoner of Azkaban and I think he did the best job of all the directors.
